IEA Names Western National Champions

Western competition at the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) National Finals, held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, was hotly contested April 22-24. Prizes were sponsored by the NRHA, Rod’s Western Palace, Bridleplates.com, Inkstables LLC, and Noble Outfitters.

Competition on Friday, April 22, started with the Varsity Intermediate Reining Individual Final. Nicole Ellis from the Central Carolina – NC team came out on top aboard Mickey. Gabriella Kammerer from Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian slid into the reserve champion spot on Dugan. Third through eighth place included Sierra Walter of Red Dirt Riders on Dee, Jacob Kamm from Royal Creek Equestrian Team aboard Jose, Meghan Moran of Hillside Meadows on Dugan, Claire Pound from Hammond Equestrian Team on Dee, Jesse Dillaman of Grove City Area Equestrian on Twist, and Lindsay Guynn from Rocky Mountain Wranglers on Jose.

The Future Novice Horsemanship Individual Final saw Annalia Evans of the King Show Horses team as champion riding Grant. Reserve champion went to Puthoff Equestrian Team’s Courtney Hilty on Reggie. Third through eighth place went to Kassidy Lammers of Team JGPH aboard Addison, Alex Hangge from Grove City Area Equestrian riding Kid, Lilly Smith of Central Carolina – NC on Cupid, Baileigh Loucks from TMC Equestrian Team and Brooke, Maddie Hawkins from Team Need A Hand riding Koko, and Eva Mazzola of Hillside Meadows aboard Missy.

Anna Hollenack from Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian rode Chubbs to victory in the Junior Varsity Horsemanship Individual Final. Austin Davis of Dare Equestrian Team picked up reserve champion on Dually. The third through eighth place slots went to

MacKenzie Antal of Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian aboard Rico, Madeline Parr from Last Lap Ranch on Spot, Sarah Czelusta of TMC Too with Twist, Kami Woodard of Halvorson & Tucker on Dugan, Gracie Goad from Rocky Mountain Wranglers and Addison, and Layne Lassnick of West Winds Equestrian with Brooke.

Future Intermediate Horsemanship Individual Final competitor Chloe Stephenson from Autumn Rose Farm rose to the top aboard Spot, while Madison Parduhn of Halvorson & Tucker took reserve with Reggie. Third through eighth place went to Hannah Jane Lucas of IIIR Stars Equestrian and Rico, Peyton Derr from Hancock Horseman with Tippy,
Mara Darney of Grove City Area Equestrian on Grant, 
Macey Stevens from Watkins Equestrian Team aboard Koko, Kelsey Greer of Grove City Area Equestrian with Kesha, andDarby Honea from Last Lap Ranch riding Kid.

The Varsity Open Horsemanship Individual Final blue ribbon went to Ellexxah Maxwell of Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian riding Spot, followed by Mallory Baker from Team JGPH and Kesha in reserve. Finishing in third through eighth place, respectively, were
Lauren Nissen of Hancock Horseman aboard Grant, Hallie McClintock from Dare Equestrian Team on Cupid, Anna Enos of Grier School with Rocky, Elisabeth Will, also of Grier School, and Tippy, Amanda Campbell from Central Carolina – NC with Reggie, andJill Pfisthner from Desert Heat Equestrian with Missy.

Saturday’s competition started with the NRHA Varsity Open Reining Team Final, which saw Caroline Gute from Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian as victor aboard Dee. Olivia Willeke of KM Equestrian slid Kesha to reserve champion honors. Third through eighth place finishers included, respectively, Sloane Vogt of Grier School on Jose, Alexa Mier from The Grimm Riders riding Dugan, Jordyn Clark of Hillside Meadows aboard            Jose, Julia Stayer from TMC Too on Reiny, Jenna Farmer of King Show Horses riding Twist, and Reagan Stephens from Red Dirt Riders on Dee.

The NRHA Future Intermediate Reining Team Final went to KM Equestrian’s Ellie Zawisza riding Duke, while Chloe Stephenson of Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian earned second place aboard Ugg. Third through eighth place went to Natalie Sekulow from King Show Horses on Chubbs, Hannah Jane Lucas of IIIR Stars Equestrian riding Mickey 1, Madison Olvert from Hillside Meadows aboard Dually, Emma Lane of Central Carolina – NC on Mickey 1, Kylee Williams from Team JGPH riding Dox, and Lindsay Shaw of   Grier School on Dually.

Rylee Aurand of KM Equestrian rode Snazzy to victory in the Junior Varsity Novice Horsemanship Team Final, followed by Jessica Fowler of King Show Horses on Pete. Third through eighth place finishers included Lillian Johns from Dare Equestrian Team on Rico, Erika Lundquist of Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian with Roy, Megan King from The Grimm Riders riding Grant, Grace Markowski of Hillside Meadows on Cupid, Abigail Wright from TMC Too with Rocky, and Lindsay Weiser of Grier School on Dixie.

The Varsity Intermediate Horsemanship Team title went to Sophia Christy of Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian aboard Snazzy. Hannah Willeke of KM Equestrian came in second place aboard Kesha. Third through eighth place honors went to, respectively, Laura Meadows of King Show Horses on Zippy, Megan Wells from TMC Too riding Rocky, Abigail McGinn of Hillside Meadows on Reggie, Cheyenne Walter from Red Dirt Riders aboard Spot, Faith Ellsworth from Grier School with Grant, and Lauren Fraylick of Central Carolina – NC on Cupid.

In the final western class of the day, Claire Andrews from Grier School pulled out the win in the Future Beginner Horsemanship Team Final riding Dugan, while Seth Rogers of KM Equestrian came in second aboard Missy. Riders placing third through eighth included Sydney Buckley from Team JGPH on Kermit, Nora Yearin of Arizona Reining Equestrian with Spot, Emerson Madonia from King Show Horses on Jose, Emma Womble from Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian riding Dually, Elena Grinblatas of Hillside Meadows on Roy, and Madison Greene from Pond Hill Equestrian riding Twist.

Varsity Intermediate Reining Team competition kicked off competition on Sunday, with Hannah Willeke of KM Equestrian taking the win on Mickey 1. Leeann King from The Grimm Riders rode Dugan to second place. Third through eighth place went to Jessica Drown of Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian riding Dox, Megan Wells of TMC Too on Dox,
Abigail McGinn from Hillside Meadows with Twist, Mary-Margaret Coats of Central Carolina – NC on Dugan, Grace Cope from Last Lap Ranch riding Mickey 1, and Kayla Kimble of Grier School with Jose.

Annalia Evans from King Show Horses rode Roy to win the Future Novice Horsemanship Team Final, while KM Equestrian’s Katie Gerken rode Addison to second. Riders placing third through eighth includedAva Sinclair of Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian on Reggie,
Alex Hangge from Grove City Area Equestrian with Daisy, Isabella Hehr of IIIR Stars Equestrian aboard Rico, Kassidy Lammers of Team JGPH riding Brooke, Lilly Smith from Central Carolina – NC on Cupid, and Kate Yearin of Arizona Reining Equestrian riding Grant.

The Junior Varsity Beginner Horsemanship Team title went to Austin Davis of Dare Equestrian Team aboard Spot. Anna Hollenack from Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian finished in second place riding Dugan. Third through eighth place finishers included Sarah Czelusta of TMC Too riding Chubbs, Rachel Ford from Central Carolina – NC on Roy, Madeline Parr of Last Lap Ranch aboard Rico, Laney VanderHart from KM Equestrian with Pete, McKenzie Aebi of Grier School riding Brooke, and Emily Garver from The Grimm Riders on Missy.

IIIR Stars Equestrian’s Hannah Jane Lucas rode Charlie to win the Future Intermediate Horsemanship Team Final. Chloe Stephenson from Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian took second with Tippy. Third through eighth place went to Kylee Williams of Team JGPH on Cupid, Sarah Prynne from Central Carolina – NC riding Snazzy, Lindsay Shaw of Grier School aboard Reggie, Kelsey Greer from Grove City Area Equestrian with Daisy, Hannah Todd from Pond Hill Equestrian riding Kesha, and Madison Olvert of Hillside Meadows on Spot.

In the final class of the competition, Ellexxah Maxwell from Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian once again took home the blue ribbon, this time riding Grant in the Varsity Open Horsemanship Team Final. Second place went to Olivia Willeke of KM Equestrian for her ride on Snazzy. Third through eighth place finishers included Anna Enos from Grier School with Spot, Addy Cullum of Central Carolina – NC on Kesha, Hallie McClintock from Dare Equestrian Team aboard Tippy, Kate Baugh of Rocky Mountain Wranglers riding Rocky, Julia Stayer from TMC Too with Nova, and Reagan Stephens of Red Dirt Riders on Cupid.

The IEA handed out some special awards after competition was complete. Kesha from Jewell Reining in Conyers, GA, was named the NRHA Outstanding Western Horse and  2016 NRHA Sportsmanship Award went to Caroline Gute from Autumn Rose Equestrian.

After all was said and done, it was time to pin the top teams. The Middle School Western Team Championship went to KM Equestrians from Findlay, OH, while Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian Team from Plain City, OH earned reserve champion. Third through eight place teams included King Show Horses Equestrian Team from Snellville, GA,IIIR Stars Equestrian Team in Hopkins, SC, Grier School from Tyrone, PA, Team JGPH from Delaware, OH, Central Carolina – NC from Lucama, NC, and Grove City Area Equestrian Team from Grove City, PA.

The Upper School Western Team Championship went to Autumn Rose Farm Equestrian Team, while KM Equestrians settled for second this time around. Third through eighth place went to DARE Equestrians from Hilliard, OH, TMC Equestrian Team from Cuba, NY, The Grimm Riders from Creston, OH, King Show Horses Equestrian Team, Grier School, and Hillside Meadows from Grafton, MA.
