IEA National Finals—Day 1 Wraps Up with an Abundance of Winners

Wednesday, April 20, marked the first day of the Interscholastic Equestrian National Finals—and the first time that the Hunt Seat and Western Finals have culminated during one event, at the Alltech Arena in the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.
Day one started with the Varsity Open Over Fences Individual competition, with Kayla Lott from Elvenstar earning the championship aboard Abby. Lott is the highest placing senior and will be awarded an $1,100 scholarship from the 10th Annual IEA Founders College Scholarship Fund, as well as a saddle from Henri de Rivel. Following her in the top eight finishers were Marina Gond from MidCoast Maine riding Thomas; Wynne Weatherly from Cedarhill Farm on Mike; Mackenzie Russ of Country Farms on Jojo; Ransom Rombauer from Sonoma on Greggor; Madeline Vorhies of BritMohr Farm aboard Goose; Jamie Morris of In Stride on Birdie; and Ariana Angelis of Empress Equestrian Team aboard Dior; respectively. Prizes were also provided by Dover Saddlery, Tredstep Ireland, Samshield, and R.J. Classics.
In the Varsity Intermediate Over Fences 2’ Individual class, Ethan Maye from Clover Grove was named champion while riding Kobe, followed by Sara Tuck of Pebble Beach Equestrian on Spike. Third through eighth finishers included Madeline Rideout from Empire State aboard Six; Tomiko McGovern from Lucky C riding Diva; Olivia Robertson from Last Lap Ranch on Darby; Sarah Hyde of Herring Brook Farm aboard Kobe; Isabella Raux from Prestige Riding on Kobe; and Kaylen Tom of River Wind Farm riding Red.
The Future Intermediate Over Fences Individual class winners included first place finishers Mallory Francis from HRA/Foxtail Farm and Thomas, followed by Eva Bernstein of Cornerstone/Hidden Po aboard Pennitoo; Jessica Guginsky from the Knox School aboard Dior; Eris Diienno from Second Nature Farm riding Doug; Holly Ansert from Valley View Equestrian aboard Party Girl; Stephany McConnell from Little Town aboard Party Girl; Jesselyn Murphy from Buffalo Equestrian riding Libby; and Dabney Park from Longview Stables as the respective second through eighth place finishers.
And in the Future Novice Over Fences Individual class, the respective finalists were: Champion Lily Woods from Far and Away Equestrian on Doug; Reserve Champion Julia Wekhoven of RCR Farms Too on Kermit; Lucille Milliken and Sammataro Hammond on Splash; Coles Owens from HRA/Foxtail Farm on Splash; Adele Bonomi of Sonoma Valley Sta on Pennitoo; Caroline Mancini from Southeatern Ct on Audie; Jenna Woods from End of Hunt on Doug; and Sophia Azurin from High Time Stables on Liza.
