Saturday, November 21, felt like Old Home week for me. I have not had the opportunity to attend the Silver Heels banquet in many years. I have to admit; the group does hold a special place in my heart, as it is one of the first affiliates I sold when I started the Journal. Talking with many was a walk down memory lane.
There were a lot of new faces in the room; some new horse owners, others children and grandchildren of members I have know for years. Some were familiar faces that had decided to scale down from the Class A show circuit and “show for fun” this year. One thing I can say for sure, the room was filled; people were having fun and taking home a lot of wonderful awards.
Julie Gibbons, banquet chairperson, along with Alicia Deluca, Cheryl Kelley and Tom O’Neil should be commended on how well the event was run. The awards were given out quickly so as not to drag out the process, yet each competitor was give their time in the limelight. I found myself drawn to the great prizes on the raffle table – as did many others. Sorry to say, I came home empty handed.
As I watched the crowd and talked with people at many of the tables I quickly remembered why I had brought my daughter, Jennifer, to some of the Silver Heels shows when she was much younger. I left with a smile thinking lead line with my granddaughter, Kiera, is just a winter away. I do not think it will be long before I see my friends at Silver Heels again.
