The nation’s oldest agricultural fair looked to the Northeast Friesian Horse Club to help them bring to light their first ever pleasure ring horse show. The show featured Friesians, Morgans, Canadians, Saddlebreds, Quarter Horses, Appaloosas, Gypsies and Paint Horses and offered over $3,000 in prize money. The weather during the two-day event of October 8-9 was typical brisk autumn air and stayed basically dry.
The crowds particularly enjoyed the incredible costumes in the Friesian Fantasy and Period Costume classes. The open costume class added to the highlights. The atmosphere was friendly and fun was had by all.
USEF Judge Robert Turner looked at the horses closely and efficiently in his first stint as a judge in the northeast region. Show steward Jo Hight handled the questions well while Secretary Irene Parker kept the paperwork flowing smoothly as the event went off without any hitches. Cyndee Sandvil did a marvelous job as ringmaster in her first season in this venue. Cyndee’s many years training and exhibiting were obvious in her handling of the ring events. Assistant Show Manager Terri Ray and Treasurer Charmane Delisle kept the ribbons and trophies organized while assisting in all aspects of the show. On Friday, Becky Field joined Charmane Delisle assisting with ring presentations. DJ Drew handled the flow at the in-gate successfully in his first time at the job. Show manager Rick Drew doubled as announcer.
The fair crowd enjoyed the fact that the specs were read to them so they knew what Judge Turner was looking for each day.
The show was a huge success in its first year and promises that next year will be even bigger and better. Mark your calendar and be sure to join us next year – you will be glad you did.  This is a great event to add to the fair and northeast region of horse shows.
