NHHJA Year End Banquet
NHHJA celebrated its “year end “ Champions at the annual banquet held at the center of NH in Manchest
er on Saturday, December 5. It was a “Silver Bells Ball” and the room, tables and prizes were adorned with silver sleigh bells for an elegant evening touch. A delicious buffet dinner was served and live music was provided by “The DogFathers” catering to dance enthusiasts of all ages. Unfortunately, the dancing was cut a bit short by one of the first major storms of the season, driving people home earlier than usual. It was a lovely evening otherwise, honoring our high point riders of all ages with beautiful prizes and ribbons.
In addition to the high point horses and riders, NHHJA does a wonderful job honoring people
who give of their time and energy along with special recognition for high point trainer and all committee members. Among the recipients for these awards were VIP’s, Madeline Theodore and Mel Couture who give freely of their time for the benefit of the association. Trainer of the year was given to Gretchen Anderson and Jane Smith was not only the adult high point rider of the year, but her lovely horse Strictly Chocolate was also Horse of the Year. Kristina DeWitt took home top Jr. rider of the year, and Barry Spellman was nominated as the “Parent of the Year.”
The two $1,500, NHHJA scholarship recipients were Kristen Phelps and Julia Kaufman. Both students turned in wonderful essays based on a quote by Walt Whitman. The NHHJA is changing it’s eligibility status for entries, so please check our website for details next summer.
It was a pleasure to see all of the young ladies out of their boots and into semi-formal attire. Well done, riders and NHHJA for
another gala event.
Plans are underway for a fantastic 2010 season. The NH finals will be back at the Cheshire fairgrounds on Columbus day weekend. The summer festival promises to be bigger and better than ever. Stay tuned, stay warm!
