Extreme Mustang Makeover Western Stampede
The Mustang Heritage Foundation is gearing up for this year’s Extreme Mustang Makeover Western Stampede in Fort Worth, TX, September 18-20, where nearly 100 horse trainers from around the country have been paired with wild mustangs for 100 days of training. The horse and trainer pair will then compete in the Extreme Mustang Makeover competition where judges, including NCHA champion Barbra Shulte, Colorado State’s Dr. Jim Heird and renowned rancher and photographer Bob Moorehouse, will score them on body conditioning, an in hand obstacle course and an under saddle horse course, followed by the always exciting and surprising freestyle finals. These horses will then be made available for adoption following the event. In addition, another 17 youth trainers will bring their talents to the yearling market.
An added bonus to this year’s competition is the Extreme Mutt Makeover, highlighting 10 shelter dogs trained by Dallas/Fort Worth area dog trainers for adoption through the Humane Society of North Texas. All 10 dogs will be shown and the top three will compete for Top Dog. Special guests will also include equine clinicians Ken McNabb and Chris Cox.
Last year’s event, which yielded an audience of more than 3,000 daily, featured more than 300 horses, but has now been divided into two competitions, one in Fort Worth and the other, the Eastern Stampede, to be held October 23-25 in Murfreesboro, TN. All horses will be made available for adoption on Sunday, September 20.
The Extreme Mustang Makeover is also an official event of National Wild Horse Adoption Day to be held September 26. For more information, visit www.extrememustangmakeover.com.
