Dover Saddlery Presents…

Author: Natalee S. Roberts |

Dover Saddlery held the first event in their Feed Forum Series on January 21, at their Feed and Stable store in Plaistow, NH.

The event was a great success, and very informative. It was a pleasure to return to the store where I find everyone to be extremely helpful. As I spoke with other people around the room, the consensus was clear, everyone was impressed with the amount of product and the knowledge of the staff. Whether it’s Pennfield or Nutrena – they have it all!

The staff at Dover’s Feed and Stable store is remarkably personable. They voluntarily load my grain for me and are more than willing to listen to my horse’s needs and best nutritional options. They can either help me put together the ideal feed program for my horse or know where to call to get the right information. The store is also offering a sign-up sheet for hay testing every Wednesday by Nutrena.

Dover’s value of their customers, both human and horse, inspired an educational series that can ultimately make for a healthier horse and happier owner.

The first of their series began with Equine Nutrition 101, in which multiple topics including: Understanding the Equine Digestion System, Managing Your Horse’s Health, and Current Topics in Equine Nutrition, were discussed.

Nutrena® feed consultants want to ensure that horse owners achieve optimum health for their animals. Nutrena® Territory Sales Manager Tiffany Wyman gave a presentation to about 40 horse owners about equine nutrition.

In addition to lending expertise to live audiences, Cargill, as owner of the Nutrena® brand, offers horse owners nutrition and care tools on its NutrenaWorld.com website. Wyman said the company’s sales consultants also perform special services to better evaluate horse health and diet.

“You need to take it all into consideration,” Wyman said. “Understanding the horse digestive tract and what is in the forage is vital for proper nutrition.”

Knowing what a horse needs depends on age and activity criteria, but according to Wyman accurate forage analysis is critical. That’s why she begins her assessments by sending samples of a horse’s natural forage to a chemical lab for nutrient analysis. Once the composition is known, Wyman is able to recommend the best Nutrena® formula to balance and complement the forage diet with minerals and nutrients the horse won’t get while grazing.

“If you fully understand your horse’s digestive system, then you’re able to make better decisions about feeding your horse,” Wyman said.

Dover Saddlery generously provided guests to the forum gift certificates to their store as well as coupons for Nutrena feed. Dover Saddlery, Feed and Stable, can be reached at 603-378-0438.

Pennfield Feed

Starting February 15 through March 13, Pennfield Equine Feeds is giving away free feed in their second major promotion of 2010. Genetics predisposes a foals’ success, but nutrition is what can make or break it. Pennfield is helping to give them, and their owners, a head start. For a limited time, it’s "Buy Four Get One Free" on Pennfield’s Foal’s Choice, and Broodmare & Yearling’s Choice, each designed to properly fulfill the protein, amino acids and balanced minerals needs of these special life stages. Plus, get the same great deal on Pennfield’s Equinox Sales Prep formula, for an unmatched “bloom” on young stock.

All of these breeding formulas feature the same unsurpassed standard for quality, in formulas, consistency and ingredients, as their athlete formulas that were chosen to feed the U.S. teams for the last four Games (’02 Jerez, ’04 Athens, ’06 Aachen and ’08 Beijing). But the proof is always in the horses. Top international riders like Georgina Bloomberg, Michael Barisone, Phillip Dutton, Buck Davidson and many others live by that rule, which is why they resolve to feed Pennfield. Let yours give it a try for a couple months, and see what they say. With every fifth bag free, it’s a great time for new success with the world’s most credentialed feed.
