The Big Sky Morgan Horse Association (BSMHA) had a “Celebrate the Morgan” trail ride on Saturday, September 12, at the Gehring Ranch in Lincoln, MT. The weather was perfect and the scenery spectacular. Eleven riders on ten Morgans participated. We started out at the corrals and rode through hay meadows up to higher elevations. The ride was five hours including a 30-minute lunch break.

Riders included BSMHA president Lisa Spors-Murphy riding Black Hat Knight Raven, Jude Spors-Murphy riding MSMF Devine Ambrosia, Andrea Burton on Mtn Gems Rhinestone, Chris Holm on Devine Mountain Echo, Maryellen Dawley on MiSue Crown Fortune, Mike Cassidy on MiSue Solar Flare, Monica Cassidy on Blackhawk’s Knight, Rusan Nyborg on Sunshade Ariane, Kathy Nyborg riding the only non-Morgan, Wayne Nyborg on NR Hawk’s Whoop SheDaisy, and Toni Burton on Mtn Gems Garnet. Four of the Morgans were fairly green, but everyone handled the trail like old pros.

Riders saw deer and elk and grouse on the ride. We also had six dogs with us running several extra miles through the woods back to the trail. After the ride we all got together for a potluck supper and had lots of great Morgan stories to share. A great day with great folks and the best horses, Morgans of course!
