American Drum Horse Association March 2010 News

Author: Holly Subia |
Date Added: February 26,2010 |

As the New Year starts, the American Drum Horse Association is putting on a new face. Our web page has been updated and re-launched and is available for all to learn about the history of the American Drum Horse and its British roots. We will of course still feature breeder listings, classifieds, and lots of pictures.

We ended last year with a great showing at the Massachusetts Equine Affair. In 2010, the ADHA intends to have a larger presence at more of the horse expos and breed demos, including the Western States Horse Expo in Sacramento, California. This will be our first big showing on the west coast, and we hope to introduce the American Drum Horse to the western states in a big way. Bellatrix, a Drum filly owed by Subia Drafts, has been to the Western States Horse Expo. Being a spokes-horse is a big job and requires a big Drum Horse. More American Drum Horses will be in attendance, and Bellatrix welcomes the big boys to join in the fun and wow the crowds.

The ADHA will continue to sponsor Drum Horse classes across the United States in the coming year. We all look forward to seeing more ADHA registered horses take to the ring in all disciplines. Our number of members and registered horses continues to expand here at home, plus the ADHA has had interest from overseas in joining our organization. As the American Drum Horse grows in popularity, the ADHA will be discussing how to manage international chapters and registrations.

Several new faces have joined our busy volunteer staff this year. We have welcomed a new president to the helm. Jim Elliott took the reins of ADHA in late 2009. Jim brings many new ideas and a fresh enthusiasm to our organization. He has already gathered up other American Drum Horse enthusiasts to help with marketing, fundraising, and new memberships. Jim also calls the west coast home, so we hope for expansion into the western states’ markets and shows.

The ADHA has added another person to the Board of Directors, Sarah Hollis. To name a just few of the many talents Sarah brings to the table: professional breeding, showing, and horse promotion.

We have added two more positions on our team – Karen Baker is the new Membership Chair and Rebecca Kinney is heading up marketing and advertising for the Association.

Information about American Drum Horses can be found and shared on our new Facebook page, American Drum Horse Association, and we also have a Yahoo group of the same name. All are welcome to join, even if you are just curious about the breed and not yet a member of the ADHA!

Our website is another good place to visit to find breeders, horses for sale and the royal history of the American Drum Horse: http://www.DrumHorseAssociation.com/.
